We sat down with 2014 Dream Vision 16s guard Shad Watson for a questions and answers session in June.
What is your official height?
What position do you see yourself playing in college?
Point guard or shooting guard
What do you feel is your greatest asset on the floor?
My shooting. I feel comfortable shooting threes or even deep threes, and beating my man and pulling up and hitting mid-range jumpers.
How would you describe your game to someone who hasn’t seen you play?
Even though I’m a guard and like to shoot the ball, I love to play physical on both ends of the floor. I like to find my teammates when I push the ball down the court, along with setting up the bigs and working that inside-out game.
What aspect of your game are you most focused on improving?
Attacking the paint and getting to the foul line. Since I shoot a high percentage of free throws, this summer I’ve been focusing on attacking the paint more, and it’s going well.
Which colleges have shown the most interest in you?
Utah, Utah State, BYU, Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Minnesota, Nebraska, San Francisco.
Which coaches have impressed your family, over the phone or in-person, and why?
They’ve all been fun to talk to and good to us.
Would you consider attending an Ivy League school?
Absolutely. I’ve worked hard on my grades in high school and would definitely consider that opportunity.
Have you been on any visits to colleges, and do you have any plans to in the near future?
I’ve been on visits to all the Utah schools – BYU, Utah, and Utah State. I’ve been invited to others, but I just haven’t had the chance to go yet. I’m looking forward to them.
Who is your favorite NBA player?
LeBron. He’s so big and physical, yet he can handle the ball and can do so many other things.
Do you prefer Nike or adidas?
I wear and like both.
Who are some of your mentors who have helped you get to where you are right now?
My parents support me a ton, and I love seeing them and my 3 little brothers at my games. My high school and Dream Vision coaches have given me some great opportunities and the direction I need.
How has playing with Dream Vision AAU been helpful to you?
I love the Dream Vision training camps. I’ve been to a bunch of them, and I always come out a better player. I also love playing with all the amazing athletes that this team has. I love the passion they have for the game, it’s contagious.
Do you have a Facebook or Twitter handle that you would like to share?
